1.369. Resigned barren lands to the shepherding. Crossroad of roads for where miners reflected, people of the mountain, muleteers, merchants, laborers, harvesters, shepherds or simply traveling that unavoidably must pass for these places of the county of  Niebla, an extensive territory belonging to Don Alonso of Guzmán “the Good” . Only to a sharp merchant  was happened to put a sale-tavern here, in the old road that went to the sea from the mines, to the one that put for name “Facanías” and in the one that was devoted to give" many and varied services to the thousands of travelers that over there happened."

        One century later, with the population's increase, it begins to call himself Valverde del Camino, in the white  indexes to the two characteristics that distinguish to the city: the greenery of their lands and the softness of their landscapes on one hand, and the one on the way to traffic forced in search of the Route of the Silver, for another.

         It begins this way the history of a town whose venturesome spirit and tradition artisan continues until our days.

    The arrival of the Englishmen to Valverde for the exploitation of the mining resources of the district, supposed a new impulse for the activity of its people. The work generated by the mines, the setting in march of the railroad of Buitrón and the increase of other many even activities, they didn't pass desapercibidas for the valverdeño that  discovers the lack of a necessary product: the shoe, and that faithful to their personality, it is able to transform it until arriving to be considered an art: 

the one of making shoes.

                   At the beginning, those" teachers" or" banquilleros" manufactured shoes in a corner of their house (" the banquilla") with the help of almost the whole family.

         Robust, resistant shoes, able to tolerate the hard tasks of the field, the mount or the mine.

        To assist the responsibilities that the women valverdeñas brought of districts and neighboring towns, soon small work shops were created where some learned and others perfected the craft zapatera. The was born this way already famous Country boot that in 1.873 Valverde's artisan presented in the international exhibition of Vienna and he obtained the first prize. It was this first international recognition of Valverde del Camino, big teachers' synonymous today in the making of country shoes.

And still today, the art of its hands continues being born of the heart.
