History and tradition. 1.369. Land of miners and sheperds. Crossroad of highlanders, merchants, laborers, harvesters, sheperds or simply travelers that unavoidably must pass for this part of the County of Niebla, an extensive territory belonging to Don Alonso of Guzmán “El Bueno". Only a wise merchant had the bright idea to put a tavern here, in the old road that joined the sea coast with the highland mines. Named “Facanías” was built to provide many and varied services to the thousands of travelers that passed by. One century later, with the population's increase, the town gets the name of Valverde del Camino, distinguished by the green of its lands and the softness of the landscapes, continuing to be forced path for those following the "Silver Route". This is how the history of a town begins. A town which venturesome spirit and artisan tradition continues until our days. The arrival of the Englishmen to Valverde for the exploitation of the mining resources of the district, supposed a new impulse for the activity of its people. The mining activity and the railroad of Buitrón generated and increased many other activities. Valverde del Camino then discovered the lack of a necessary product: shoes, stamping in them a singular personality. Since then, Valverde transforms leather through hand work into an art: the one of making shoes. |
